[BoTW] My kids wanted to do some painting and I wasn't about leave them with paint on their own. So I painted too! I painted a huge majoras mask painting years ago and found that it was too big to do anything with. Little paintings are fun and it only took me about 40 mins!

Why I like Zant as a villain [TP]

    Posted: 29 Feb 2020 06:28 PM PST

If you're a big ol' Zelda fan like me, you've no doubt heard the complaints around Zant's character in Twilight Princess. While he began as a quiet, menacing figure, the battle with him shows him to be this loud, crazy nut job. Well, I think this change is actually a benefit to his character, and here's why.

If there's one big takeaway I got from this game, it's about how easily people become corrupt when given absolute power. This is mainly focused on with the story of the Interlopers and their Fused Shadow, and their strive to obtain the Triforce.

Zant is essentially the Interlopers' struggle condensed down into one character. Instead of getting the Fused Shadow, however, he gets Ganondorf's powers. Because of this, he's able to take over the Twilight Realm, as well as cover Hyrule in twilight.

Throughout the game, Zant wears his signature helmet, hiding his true face, and it isn't until much later in the game where we see his helmet come off. Zant first unmasks himself to Link at the Palace of Twilight. By this point, he's lost his grip on Hyrule, Link has breached the Palace, and Ganondorf (most likely) doesn't even care about Zant anymore, instead wanting to come back to the world himself.

And so, Zant loses all of his power, reducing him to a desperate state. Zant had brimming confidence and a quiet, menacing evil to him while he wore the helmet. However, we now see what he's like underneath, a pathetic creature that was only so powerful because his power was given to him, instead of being his own.

He copies what the other bosses created through Ganon's power did, but Link already beat them, so their patterns don't pose a challenge.

When it gets down to just Zant, he swings his swords around wildly, with no strategy at all.

Ganondorf and his influence are the real threat, not so much this guy who thought he was powerful because Ganondorf controlled him.
