    [BoTW] Breath of the Wild: Rito theory and why they exist next to the Zora

    TLDR: The Rito from Breath of the Wild and the Rito from Wind Waker are two totally different species.

    Whenever I see people discussing the Rito from Breath of the wild online, I always see questions about how both them and the Zora can exist in the same time period. However, I think these specific Rito are not related to the Rito from the Wind Waker.

    Looking at the other race from Wind Waker, the Korok, we see that culturally they are similar in both of their depictions. Thus it is safe to assume that the Korok came from the Kokiri from this timeline. However, the Rito from Breath of the Wild have a more tribal look to their cultural almost a native american vibe when their Wind Waker version have a more middle eastern look favoring robes and head covers. There is also the issue with their physical appearance. The Rito in the Wind Waker have a more human look, while the Rito in Breath of the Wild have a more bird like appearance. This is in comparison to the Gorons, Zora, and Korok who have stayed fairly similar in their physical appearance even though they also appeared in the Wind Waker.

    So why do the Rito look so difference from their Wind Waker appearance and why do the Zora also appear at the same time? I think its because there are two seperate types of Rito in the Zelda timeline. My theory is that the name Rito just means "Bird people" in the Hylian language, and that the Hylians just applied it to any species that is bird like. We see this with the two kinds of Zoras, river and sea. One is hostile while the other is friendly, but Hylians call both Zora; maybe Zora means "Water People".

    So the Rito of Wind Waker evolved from the Zora, and the Hylians just called them Rito as they were bird people. While the Rito from Breath of the Wild might have came from another part of the world and the Hylians called them Rito because again they were bird people.

    The name Rito is just a word that means "Bird people" that was applied to any race that looked like a bird no matter where they came from, similarly how Zora is applied to any fish people.
