[BoTW2] What are some suggestions for the next game that make you glad that the fans don’t work for Nintendo?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2019 02:56 PM PST

For me, the most common one that annoys me is when fans say that the weapon durability mechanic should be removed entirely, with no elaboration on how it not existing would affect the rest of the game. It's fine if you want to discuss ways that it could be improved, or maybe if you do genuinely have an idea for how to completely extract it without ruining the rest of the game, as long as you show some understanding on why it was in the game to begin with.

Also, one game can't do everything. You can't just continuously add things to a game to make it the "perfect" Zelda game. We're never getting a game with BOTW's world, MM's side quests, 8 fully fledged dungeons, caves, underwater areas and The Minish Cap's gimmick all in one game. Sacrifices need to be made somewhere.

As for Zelda being playable, while it would be cool, I would not want her to be a clone of a Link with all of the same abilities, at least not this incarnation of Zelda. I also don't want a female Link. If there ever is an option to play as a female hero, then she should be her own character, like Linkle.

Finally, the absolute worst suggestion I've ever seen is to make Ganon (or whatever the final boss of the next game is) slowly gain power the longer you take to confront him. So if you rush to fight him, you'd have an easier battle than you would if you took your time. This would completely defeat the purpose of the game, as you would essentially be punished for exploring.

[TP] still beats out [BOTW] In My Books

    Posted: 17 Nov 2019 04:41 PM PST

I only recently got a switch, so the BOTW hype has lived on within me for years. As the game started I loved every minute. The openness, the exploration, even the weapon systems felt fresh and exciting to navigate. As the map became filled out and I started becoming more combative as my weapons and skill became better I started to feel a sinking feeling. The more I fought, even the bosses, the more I realized how one-note the whole thing felt. TP really had a much more dynamic and fluid combat system with all the moves, even Windwaker had it's specialties, but BOTW and it's dodge and counter mechanics feel so lame in comparison. Every fight devolves into a frantic scramble to beef up and win in a few choice whacks as opposed to finessed combat with enemies that really punished you for choosing the wrong move. Just my 2 cents, but I feel like the lasting impression of TP and replay value is higher than BOTW, which really ends when you start simply traversing rather than exploring. Anyone else feel the same or have a counterpoint?

[BOTW2] things I want in the sequel that I haven’t seen mentioned yet...

    Posted: 17 Nov 2019 04:46 PM PST

So outside of the usual "better story," "real dungeons," and "weapons can be repaired" asks for the sequel I have my own list of wants that are very doable in my opinion (some more than others).

    1) I want night time to feel like night time. The game is ridiculously bright. Even at night I have a distinct shadow and I can never lower the brightness on my switch low enough to make it feel like it's dark out.

    2) I want everybody to have a name and for it to show up in the HUD if you're within distance of talking to them. This is kind of just ripped from Skyrim but I loved how they did it. It made characters feel unique and humanizing. You can definitely empathize with the NPCs more if their names were always visible.

    3) I'd love for them to bring in more races for the next series. Kokiri are ones that instantly come to mind but an entirely new race would be cool too.

    4) new runes/items. The runes we have are cool but I think the puzzles we could get in the next game could be a tad more complex and having more runes would make the puzzles/dungeons/shrines more than just deciding "Ok which of these 4 abilities solve this"

[ALL] Nice official art? Please help!

    Posted: 17 Nov 2019 11:42 PM PST

So I've never played Zelda, but I am trying to get a birthday present for my BF. I need some help with finding some nice official art of Zelda and Link that could be lasered onto a small wooden surface? So something simple would be best - I don't want to use fan art as I would feel as if it's unethical without asking the artist for permission....

    Can anyone assist? :)

[LAHD] [LA] marin is more powerful than link? are the island inhabitants DEAD? and other unanswered questions.

    Posted: 17 Nov 2019 07:19 PM PST

i have to add this, cause it has been bugging me

how the heck did marin make a wish to the wind fish? link had to traverse a deadly dungeon and defeat a nightmare just to get his first glimpse of the wind fish egg. i have to add that marin would need the rocks feather to reach the wind fish and a weapon to reach the feather, and the magic powder to get the tail key to get in the dungeon to get the feather. the games plot and lore details that only by standing before the egg can one make a wish. are they suggesting that marin, without a sword, got the tail key, made her way through the dungeon, got a SECOND ROCS FEATHER, then made it through the forest and swamp, then walked up to the wind fish, and made her wish? i get the entire game is a dream, but what the f nintendo?

also for that matter how did tarin get stuck in tal tal heights? you need the feather, flippers, power bracelet, boots, and the hookshot to get there. and he says "i will be lost in the mountains later" when you talk to him in mabe village. also how does anyone know that their is endless sea beyond the island? did someone leave into an infinite void and then make it back alive? how did richard get from his castle through the hoards of enemies to his small cottage? screw link and his story, i want to know how these normal dream people pulled off seemingly impossible tasks. this is just making me further believe that the owl statues represent failed attempts.

also i genuinely believe that the island is like this weird paradise that can conjure the things that the inhabitants most desire. if richard was pulled into the wind fishes dream then perhaps the island is responsible for giving him his castle. and perhpas the trendy game shop owner was also pulled in and given the shop. also is he related to the rafting game brothers? we know that the wind fish caused the storm that took down links ship. so it is entirely possible that the inhabitants in the island dream were people all on a single ship that was wrecked some time before links boat was wrecked. the wind fish sought a hero to awaken him, and crashed ships over him asleep in the sea to do so. so the island inhabitants could be real people who possibly died in their attempts to save the wind fish. and perhaps link was seeing them as people he knew because the island dream creates that which the residents desire the most.

for all we know the island residents were not even people, but rather nightmares taken human forms in an attempt to stop link. wouldnt that be horrifying? and marin was trying to keep link from awakening the wind fish by having him fall for her. or maybe each inhabitant is just a ghost of a person who failed to save the wind fish, in this case this would explain why some people can go to some places that require certain items. because they already completed the dungeons and obtained the items, and the world being a dream simply reset the dungeons for each new resident whom entered. this would make tarin the strongest of the inhabitants as he was able to reach tal tal heights ON HIS OWN with no help from anyone else. this feat would require beating the first FIVE DUNGEONS and obtaining their items, also note that tarin is the one that gives your your shield.

[BoTW] Improvements I want to see in a BOTW style sequel

    Posted: 17 Nov 2019 06:44 AM PST

BOTW was an amazing game, but it had a lot of things that could have been improved upon. Here is a list of things I would want for a BOTW style sequel in no particular order (not necessarily BOTW 2, but a big open world Zelda). I talk about various things in the game, including things that could be spoilers for people who haven't played BOTW. So that's your spoiler warning.

    • More variety in clothing perks. So many armour sets had the same perk. I don't need 4 armour sets with night speed up. The tingle armour for example, why does it give you night speed up? I feel like it would have been better for it to give you better prices with merchants or the ability to find more rupees in the wild.
    • Be able to upgrade ALL of the clothing. I don't know about you but I thought it was lame that we got super cool DLC armour sets that were basically useless because it stayed super weak. If you got the sets late in the game (because the DLC came out months after the game came out) there was no point in even finding them other than completion of the quests.
    • The voice acting... So, the majority of the voice work in the game was terrible, let's be honest. Not only was it bad, there were really only a handful of lines for each actor (though that was probably for the best). Either get rid of voice acting (I've never thought Zelda games needed it anyways) or hire actual professional and good voice actors. (it's my opinion dudes, I don't want people to get mad over it)
    • An even amount of full hearts/stamina. You all know what I'm talking about.
    • If I can ride it I want to be able to register it. Also I want to ride more things. Who else was disappointed that they couldn't register the lord of the mountain or even a stall horse? There were so many cool and weird things I could ride around on that I wanted to keep and I was sad when I couldn't be all princess mononoke and ride a stag forever. Also why can I ride a BEAR and not a moose or a rhino? I can't bring this up without bringing up lynels... I was so excited to see that I could mount it and I spent a stupid amount of time (and stamina) trying to tame it. Sure it would be a bit crazy to tame and ride around on a lynel, but is it though? Maybe just make it ridiculously hard to do, but I want to do it damnit.
    • Either have food heal less, have uncooked food not heal at all, or have a much more limited meal inventory space. Part of the difficulty problem for the mid to late game is that you have stupid amounts of food that you can eat constantly and you will never ever have to worry about death. The early parts of the game are so much fun because you do actually have to worry that you might die. You don't have a lot of meals/haven't cooked much food so it doesn't heal very much or give you 20 temporary hearts. Maybe at least have additional meal inventory slots be unlock-able... I mean they did have literally half of the korok seeds be useless to find. I think this would have been a better fit.
    • Better, more unique rewards for side quests and better loot in the chests in the shrines. I'm sure a lot of people got tired of doing quests for some rupees, a meal, or some other useless crap that we find laying around literally everywhere. The shrine chests have the same problem too, it was always some weapon that was like 20 attack power under everything else you had so you just kind of left it there. What about giving me an awesome more rare weapon? Or maybe some rare crafting materials so I don't have to grind for falling stars or giant cores? Now, some of the shrines actually did give you cool things, like parts of armour sets... why not more of that?
    • Better, more unique side quests. The Zelda series is capable of good side quests, Majoras mask proves this, and the game did have a handful of good ones. But the majority were useless fetch quests and was there even incentive for me to do them all? No. The Witcher 3 is a great example of a game that has tons of really great side quests along with the usual fetch quests. Make me want to do your quest, NPC!
    • More enemy variety - area specific enemies. The Zelda series has TONS of unique enemies, it was kind of a bummer to only see a handful of them. I wanna see redeads, like likes, poes, peahats, darknuts! Give me more than the 10 that are in the game! There are so many different environments in BOTW, having more area specific enemies (like the molduga) would have been awesome. I would love to see more overworld bosses though, lynels, stone talus, hinox, and molduga were so much fun to encounter and fight right out in the open. It would be great for them to add even more.
    • Underwater swimming or at least diving. Did you ever kill something in the water and have the loot sink to the bottom of the very shallow pool? Yeah, at least let me dive a few feet. There are a ton of bodies of water in the game and I want to be able to explore those too!
    • Secret caves/ underground holes to explore. Any time I saw a bombable wall in BOTW I was like "Oh! Maybe it's a cave!" Nope. a chest... or maybe a rock. I miss the days of secret caves and frankly it was a waste of a giant overworld not to hide tons of secret things in it.
    • Recipe book to keep track of already cooked recipes. There are so many possible combinations for food in BOTW and there's nothing worse than making an awesome meal, eating it, then not remembering what you put in the thing to make it so good. Yes, you can see a recipe of a meal you have in your inventory, but once it's gone so is the recipe. It would have been nice to have some way of keeping track of all your recipes.
    • Completion rewards. We all know the literal pile of crap you get for finding 900 korok seeds, and I was happy to find them as long as they rewarded me for my effort. But that stopped halfway through! And you don't get anything at all for getting 100% in the game. I'm really not sure what they could possibly give you for all that work, but come on. At least something would have been nice. Maybe a single true unbreakable weapon (you get to choose one kind. One handed, two handed, axe, you get it). That late in the game the whole balance that breakable weapons gives the game does't matter anyways. So hey, why not?
    • Quick swap for chests and pick up! You got a new weapon! But too bad, come back later because your stupid inventory is full! I don't think I need to really say more about what I want for this.
    • Be able to stay in stealth mode while taking pictures. If they bring back the camera/compendium feature I'd really love it if I could take a stealthy picture. Some of those bugs/tiny birds are hard to get before they fly away.
    • Arlo's blacksmith idea. For those of you who don't know, Arlo is a blue puppet guy who talks about games on youtube. In one of his videos he brings up a meatier crafting system and it's basically this. Across the world you can use foraged items and monster parts to craft/upgrade weapons at little work tables, probably in places like stables. But also across the world are blacksmith guys who pass on their knowledge to you so you can craft better more high quality stuff. Similar to how the great fairies work in the game. Maybe you have to complete certain quests for them or just complete a certain amount of the game to unlock each one. It gives you more use for the piles of stuff sitting in your pockets and I really think it would help quell the people upset by breakable weapons.
    • Bring back themed/ big intricate dungeons. The difficulty can be ranged in a way of the proximity to the starting point in the game or automatically upping the difficulty for the next dungeon after the previous one is defeated. I didn't hate the divine beasts... but I didn't love them either. They were a cool idea, but they are SO short and have little to no enemies in them. Once you beat them once you can beat them the next time in literally 15 minutes. I know I can say I wasn't the only one disappointed by BOTWs "dungeons" but then, I made it to Hyrule castle and I was like "Why didn't they do this with every dungeon!?" What I mean by this is having a huge dungeon that I could explore in any way that I wished. Or not. And that's the great thing about Hyrule castle. You don't have to explore any of it, by the end of the game you have both the Zora armour and Ravali's gale, you can basically skip straight to Ganon if you want to. But! If you do take the time to explore you're rewarded with awesome loot, koroks, story elements in the form of diaries and a hylian shield! For future games I would love it if they gave the BOTW Hyrule castle treatment to all of the dungeons. But have more incentive to explore the dungeon as a whole, like a non essential but useful item to find, hidden somewhere in the dungeon like the hylian shield was.
      • Like a grappling hook for faster short distance climbing (it would only attach to a ledge or something to keep people from abusing it up a mountain), climbing gloves for better climbing in the rain, Pegasus boots for faster running (similar to how they had the snow and sand boots.) Lens of truth for finding secrets (koroks), magic spells (though the champion abilities and warp points kind of fill this roll. Maybe they won't have those exact things in the next one.)
      • Dungeon collectables: like the stray fairies in Majoras mask. If you collect them all while exploring the dungeon and then bring them to a certain NPC or great fairy you're rewarded with something awesome!
    • More unique bosses. I feel like this should go without saying given the last item on the list but here it is. All of the bosses in BOTW were basically the same guy. Come on, give me cool crazy beasts to take down, not the same guy 4 times.

BOTW was a first try in open world, throw away everything we know and love Zelda games. Just think about how good the next one could be going forward. I'm excited just thinking about it.

[BoTW] How the Breath of the Wild and Breath of the Wild 2 may signify the end of the Legend of Zelda as we know it

    Posted: 17 Nov 2019 03:36 PM PST

Mild spoilers ahead. This theory is based off of my experiences and opinions. I've been a fan of the LoZ franchise for almost as long as I can remember. Breath of the Wild really "did it for me." I've read that a lot of people believe that botw is one of the best Zelda games and I've read that it isn't even a Zelda game at all. This theory is going to be on the basis that it is a significant game to the franchise. Since Nintendo has said that the Zelda timeline is open to interpretation, I'm going to put botw at the end of all of the timelines as in the "Recurrence Theory" (that botw is so far in the future that all of the events from all of the timelines have happened and have been unified back into one timeline.) I really enjoyed botw and it's one of my top 3 favorite Zelda games. One of the things that I loved about botw was that it had a form of sincerity and value IMO no other Zelda game had. The decision to use the piano as the main instrument made everything feel so just (for lack of a better/articulate word) right. I often found myself in awe of how Nintendo was able to capture such a serene feel with both the cinematography and sound design. It still astonishes me. While the visuals and audio kept me playing, the amount of lore interested me more than I thought it would. The main part of this was Zelda as a character. Never before had I seen Zelda portrayed in this fashion. She was a princess but didn't know how to live up to it. She had powers but didn't know how to access them. She had responsibilities but didn't know how to fulfill them. This is where I started my theory. As stated in SS, Zelda is the direct reincarnation of Hylia. I think the curse of Demise will end in BoTW2. Here's why, Zelda always has the Tri-force of Wisdom. But I don't think that that is the only thing about her that gets reincarnated every time. I think that her Spirit is growing weary of the battle that always wages on. Zelda doesn't want this battle to continue. She even asks Link if he could change who he was, would he, in a cutscene/memory. I think that whenever Calamity Ganon and Dark Beast Ganon were defeated, Ganondorf in BoTW2 will fight Link and Zelda and end the curse somehow. Now this theory is by no means rock-solid, and I don't want the LoZ to end but I do think that it would be climactic. But hey, Nintendoes what Nintenwants (I didn't come up with that phrase but I forgot who said it.)
