Posted: 12 Aug 2020 04:50 AM PDT I'll preface this by saying that Twilight Princess was my first major Zelda game (that I played, not finished). I was a bit dumb as a kid, so I kind of sucked at Zelda, so I usually got stuck at a certain point and never finished them. Well flashback to a few years ago, and I finally finished both of them, really enjoying both. My only complaint with TP at that point was the underwhelming ending. For Skyward Sword, I remembered getting stuck at the Silent Realms before I gave up, then I finally went back to finish them, but then being amazed at the ending for that game. So, now that I've played them more recently... I have a bit more complaints that tarnished my experience more than the first ones. Since TP was the first one I replayed this summer, I'll talk about that one. So I was initially REALLY enjoying my experience of playing a game I've had since early childhood and noticing all the secrets I never noticed my first playthrough. Exploring and finding interesting things in Hyrule Field felt very rewarding... at first. It was around the time where I got to the Arbiter's Ground where I reached a dilemma. Most of the secrets in the world happened to just be rupees. For a while, I was contemplating doing an 100% playthrough, searching for every chest and secret I could find, but then the problem of not being able to carry the rupees you get from treasure in my wallet. This was a problem that only got worse later in the game, even after obtaining the biggest wallet from Agitha. This all wouldn't be a problem in my mind, if there was anything substantial to spend rupees on, which, at that late in the game, was severely lacking in. So after obtaining most of the item upgrades, I decided to tackle the Cave of Ordeals. I had always wanted to try it, and so I powered through it (with multiple potions and lots of bombs lol). It felt rewarding internally when I finally finished it, but the external reward for it was very disappointing to say the least... It was right after I beat the Cave of Ordeals that I went straight to Hyrule Castle and decided to beat the game before I got more disappointed from it. I had so many mixed feelings, watching the credits. I can't say I didn't have an overall good experience playing the game, but it definitely felt soured by those lackluster rewards. So it was this sour experience with side content in TP that probably made me tackle SS in the complete opposite manor. My plan for SS was to just play it tackling the main areas and dungeons with little side content. Now after hearing all the complaints about handholding for SS, I finally can understand why people would be annoyed by it. Adjustable text speeds, skippable scenes, or anything to pick up the pace, would have been very appreciated. However, despite this complaint, I became reminded of why I still defend the game despite its flaws. The motion controls for the game, although flawed due to hardware limitarions, still feels very novel, and I often felt like I was actually "controlling" Link most of the time. The main issues I had with the controls were for places they were unnecessary like swimming and flying. Combat can feel a bit slow at times, but it is very satisfying to down a strong enemy. One thing that I was a bit surprised at was all of the unique ways that you could choose to combat enemies, which I ended up exploring a lot through main quest. I ended up using bombs to quickly defeat the beefy, red enemies with the shield and spear. The enemy AI reacts in pretty interesting ways, and it really felt like some of the enemies were alive. The real highlight of SS though, were the dungeons. I really enjoyed the dungeons of TP, and I'd probably say I prefer a good bit of the ones in TP to SS on progression alone, but there were just a lot of stand out dungeons in SS and memorable puzzles. I was a bit surprised at the speed that I completed some of the dungeons in SS though, they are probably shorter than the ones in TP. I couldn't talk about SS without mentioning its beautiful soundtrack of course (which listening to the full ost inspired me to play it even more). I'm a composer myself, so I really can appreciate the lengths they went to get a full orchesta to record for the soundtrack. The results are stunning and it just has so many catchy tracks. TP's was of course awesome as well, really capturing Hyrule's atmosphere. My problems with SS come from the bloated content. Now, I was honestly surprised at how much I enjoyed the Silent Realms on a repeat playthrough compared to my first time (which I still lowkey have PTSD from). The annoying part for me, was the really late game, with the final revists to each area, which just felt completely unnecessary and ruined the pacing quite a bit. The final dungeon was very satisfying, and the climax was still just as epic as I remember it, but the unnecessary backtracking feels a bit forced. If you asked me what was the worst part about that game as of right now, I'd tell you Fi, no hesitation. If she didn't tell you what was happening on screen for 90% of the adventure, she'd at least be decent. But she is really unnecessary majority of the time. TLDR; My Twilight Princess experience was initially amazing, but was partially soiled by lackluster rewards for exploration. My Skyward Sword experience was pretty great, but mainly suffered from the bloated content and handholding from Fi. [link] [comments]

[OoT] The gatekeeper soldier denies entry! Posted: 11 Aug 2020 08:05 PM PDT So I got bored and decided to replay Ocarina of Time, and after grabbing the Keaton Mask I figured I could talk to every NPC in the game to see their reaction. Some people actually do have interesting reactions, like Saria, Zelda, or the Boss Carpenter, but before I finished talking to everyone I accidentally talked to the gatekeeper who wanted to buy the mask off of me, and I declined his offer to find more lines of dialogue. If you do this after you show him the letter to access for Death Mountain, he actually closes the gate! I never knew this before and I dont know how well known a fact it is so I figured I'd share. It's interesting he'll resppnd to not getting tbe mask by rescinding your right to climb the mountain haha, I'm sure Zelda would be upset with that. If I get the chance I might just do this with the other masks in the game in the future ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Interesting nonetheless! [link] [comments]
