[OoT] Getting Ocarina of Time on Tuesday. Anything I should know beforehand (no spoilers)

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 04:52 PM PDT

After playing BOTW which was my first ever Zelda game I thought I'd try out some other ones and decided to start with Ocarina of Time. If there is anything I should know please tell me. (3DS)

[All] What is your favorite song from the zelda series and why?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 06:16 PM PDT

it seems that there's no end to good zelda music, so I'm curious to see why people pick one song over the many other good zelda tracks out there

Edit: Just as I thought, while there are some repeats, for the most part people pick different songs as their favorite, which is just so cool to see

[ww] rant about the scariest (and worst) temple in all of zelda

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 01:46 AM PDT

OK, so wind Waker is my favourite game in the franchise, but oh MAN is the earth temple bad. Fuckin gorilla zombie men coming out of coffins and crazy portal hands. Weird sacrificial statues and shit. The boss isn't as bad as the giant fuckin sand worm in the wind temple, but he is super annoying to deal with. But also I feel it doesn't fit with the cutesy art style of the game, like your sailing an ocean, cute seagulls fly over your head, little fairy's with wands give you health. I get that they did it to contrast the bubbley outside world but come on, its so creepy when you first entered it when you were a kid. Edit: forgot to add, light puzzles are shit.

PS. I'm still scared of redeads to this day

[WW] My sister (9) is just starting WW, any tips?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 06:20 PM PDT

As said above, my sister, who is 9 years old, is just starting Wind Waker HD! She has played botw, but got stuck on Vah Ruta (her first divine beast) and stopped. I suggested she play wind waker because I have seen some people say it was the "easiest" of the Zelda games (that we own). She is on the second island (the "spooky bird island"), and is a bit stuck. I would love to help her but I have never played the game myself! If anyone has any tips (not just about that specific island - about the game in general) it would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

[WW] I accidentally got myself to hate Wind Waker

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 11:04 AM PDT

I used to love this game a lot, it was never my favorite in the series but it was at least in my top 3. A few months ago, I went on my biannual Zelda kick and decided to play it 100%. This was a huge mistake. I got so bored with that game, I actually made a post about it at the time, and I thought it was just me getting tired of a game I had played so much. But now it's been months and wow, I think I have PTSD from the Great Sea. Moral of the story, don't 100% Wind Waker, ignorance is bliss

[OoT] Good Blood Masterclass Educational Op-Ed

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 09:14 PM PDT

    https://youtu.be/GyUcwsjyd8Q

    Good evening everyone:

I wanted to write and share a video I stumbled upon while flipping through YouTube a few months back. It provides an in-depth explanation and thorough analysis of Ocarina of Time by drawing parallels to everyday life and experiences.

After playing the game 15 some years ago as a child and then picking it up again recently during the pandemic, the idea of time and how it molds individuals as it pushes you forward really resonated with me. I don't know if the themes in the video are what the creators truly intended to come through in the game, but this op-ed is persuasive enough to make me a believer.

After watching the video I began to have a rather novel appreciation for the game, it was like I just picked it up for the first time, which for me was a very special experience. Thought provoking at the very least, I enjoyed this video and I hope you do too.

Stay brave and never grow up.

[ALL] What about the LoZ inspires such loyalty and enthusiasm?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 12:35 AM PDT

I'm kind of an outsider looking in. I didn't really grow up with Nintendo- I had Sega Genesis and Sony Playstation in my early years and my first and only Nintendo console during the system's original run was the Gamecube (and the only first party games I had were Metroid Prime and F-Zero GX). I don't have much nostalgia for Nintendo or its characters/games but was always interested in the Zelda series.. I recognize the Zelda series' historical importance but don't understand the appeal, I guess.

I've tried the games from the first NES Zelda to OOT on their original consoles (also tried Link's Awakening DS on GBC, Phantom Hourglass and the Ocarina Port on DS). I got through most of LttP (stopped at, IIRC, a turtle boss that fired diffferent magic types). Ocarina was a struggle, even in 2004 when I first played it I thought it had aged a lot (Going from Kingdom Hearts or RE4 to Ocarina on the N64 controller is painful, and the game was kind of a dull slog to me, though I got to Ganon's Castle). The 3DS port doesn't really improve much from what I saw (quit at Death Mountain on that version).

With early 3D I guess you had to be there for it- I can go back to Tomb Raider or FF7 or MGS on PS1 and still have fun but can see where others might not have the nostalgia and just see the hardware limitations.

I know the Zelda fandom is enthusiastic and defensive of the series but for whatever reason I don't get it. I like similar games like Secret of Mana and Ys. I like the theme and atmosphere. I like other games with similar blends of action and exploration and puzzle solving elements like Tomb Raider and Resident Evil. But every time I pick up a Zelda game I tend to lose interest shortly after.

So what i want to ask is, what makes the fans love it so much? I'd really love to be able to love it too but for whatever reason I've struggled to get into it.

[PH] Can someone please help me?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 04:11 PM PDT

So on PH, I now have both Crimsonine and Azurine. I tried going the Temple of the Ocean King, but I don't know how to progress. There was one of the skeletons on the ground (the ones that give you hints) and it said to place the crystals in the pedestals like this- square, circle, triangle. I tried doing that, bud it wouldn't let me. Please help!

    [WW] Toon Link's Parents?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 02:08 AM PDT

Currently doing a video essay on Wind Waker for my YouTube channel, and a thought struck me, who were Toon Link's parents? I mean, Link himself is what, 13? Aryll is probably like, 7? The Grandma is still around so I'd figure there'd be SOME hint as to who they were. None of the NPCs fit the bill exactly, with Aryll and Link both having blonde hair, and none of the NPCs on Outset having that colour of hair, is it possible that the parents left the Grandma to go and move to Windfall or something?

[AoL] Choosing Stats to Level Up

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 06:18 PM PDT

I'm playing AoL on 3ds Virtual Console. Whenever I level up, it seems like I am unable to choose which stat to level up (I just started the game, so this is my 1st and 2nd level up). Am I supposed to unlock the ability later, none of the buttons seem to let me scroll to the other options to level them up.
