[Other] How I'd Imagine a "Modern" or "Industrialized" setting for a Zelda game would be executed.

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 09:44 PM PDT

I'd set the stopping point of such a setting up to and going no further than the 1960's and not up to 21st Century. As was the case with Final Fantasy. Setting's timeline starting out with steampunk (early 19th Century - WW1), a dieselpunk/steampunk overlap (WW1/early1920s). Dieselpunk (late 1920's - early 1950's.), a Dieselpunk/Atompunk overlap (late-1950's/early1960's) and finally Atompunk (1960's).

Keeping it "Retro" instead of "Modern".

I could also imagine a WW1 or WW2 style setting that involves the enemy side of the war looking into and doing research on magic and the occult much like the Germans and to some extent, the British (Operation Cone of Power) did in WW2. So the magical and fantasy aspects of the series would still persist. Other classical elements would persist as well. Dungeon Crawling coming in the form of either Archaeological Expeditions to ancient ruins and complexes or Urban Exploration. Magical artifacts would also still be present. The Fantasy aspect could also apply to an industrialized setting. Ranging from vehicular designs to the designs of buildings. For Wartime Settings, medieval aspects could also be retained. Such as Body armor greatly resembling knight's armor, Castles Either being used as Bases and Fortresses or influencing the design of fortresses, bunkers and other defensive structures, and limited use of Meelee Weapons in close quarter Combat.

Given Breath of the Wild was inspired by the look and feel of the natural aspects Studio Ghibli Movies, this style of Game would be based on the industrial aspects of Studio Ghibli's movies Such as "Howl's moving Castle". which was set in an Edwardian/ww1 era setting, Porco Rosso, which was set in the late 1930's. and the first half of "Castle in the Sky". Which was set at around a 1920's era setting.
